But in general terms, your countertop finishes out at 36 inches above the finished floor. Above the countertop you have backsplash space, most of the time people will run ceramic tile. So the 18-inch space is a good standard. It is acceptable to lower the kitchen wall cabinets down to where you only have a 15-inch space instead of an 18-inch space. Any shorter than that you’re going to have a difficult time getting coffee pots, mixers, blenders, or some taller kitchen appliances. Above that, there is a standard sized wall cabinet those are generally 30 inches tall.
