Painting your front door is like getting a haircut or maybe cutting your bangs. The first tip is to prep everything, prep your space, prep yourself and certainly prep your door. You’re gonna need to take some maybe two to three hundred something or another sandpaper. If you have unfinished wood, you definitely need to prime it. If you have a dirty door you should clean it. Tape everything and put down a drop cloth or a sheet or newspaper or anything like that. Make sure you have the right brush for the job, use a small half-inch angled paintbrush for a six-panel door with a bit of detail. Use a larger brush for the other parts. Don’t paint straight out of your can, paint will go everywhere. You need to be able to take off the paint. Use an empty paint can and dump part of your paint into the empty paint can. Some door has like paint build up on the edge, you can prevent that by painting the edge first. The other thing that you want to keep in mind is which edge to paint, and which color. When you open the door, on the inside you’re going to see in the edge. So that edge should be painted the same color as your door. The back edge which is visible from the outside when you open the door should be the same color as the outside color.
